Why Buy Bulk Vanilla Beans Direct from the Grower?

Most vanilla changes hands three or four times before it reaches your warehouse: farmer, local collector, exporter, importer, distributor — each layer adds margin and days. When you order bulk vanilla beans from Ceylon Vanilla Lanka (PureVanillaBeans.com), you buy the pod at the point where it is cured and graded. That single fact changes three things for a wholesale buyer:

  • Price transparency. Our tiered lot prices are published below — 1, 3, 5 and 10 kg — instead of hidden behind a quote form. The 10 kg tier is where serious buyers land: up to 31% below the 1 kg rate.
  • Spec honesty. Moisture content, length class and grade are stated per lot (Grade A: 25–30% moisture; Grade B: 15–20%), because we measure them at curing, not at resale.
  • Freshness & traceability. Pods are vacuum-sealed after grading and shipped with crop-year, origin and curing documentation — one origin, one supply chain, one point of accountability. Read how vanilla is cultivated in Sri Lanka and our grower story to see why that matters.

MOQ, Sampling & Order Sizes Explained

Our minimum order quantity for bulk vanilla beans is 1 kg per lot — unusually low for a grower-direct exporter, and deliberate: we want your first kilogram to prove the crop before your first container does. Above 1 kg, pricing steps down at 3, 5 and 10 kg, and anything beyond that is quoted individually.

Which Grade Should You Buy in Bulk — A or B?

Grade is not a quality verdict; it is a job description. Grade A (gourmet) pods carry 25–30% moisture: plump, glossy, flexible — the pods your customers see in retail jars, pastes and plated desserts. Grade B (extract) pods are dried to 15–20% moisture: leaner, more concentrated per kilo, and cheaper per pod — the raw material for extract, vanilla sugar and powder. A full breakdown, including the bend/sheen/split tests buyers use at receiving, is in our Grade A vs Grade B vanilla beans buyer's guide.

Dry Grade B extract-grade vanilla beans in a vacuum-sealed bulk bag
Grade B extract pods: drier (15–20% moisture), concentrated — the extract-maker's grade.
  • Extract, tincture & infusion producers: Grade B lots — more pods and more flavour solids per kilogram.
  • Retail packers & gourmet brands: Grade A lots — appearance is the product on the shelf.
  • Bakeries doing both: split the order; mixed lots are quoted on request.

Extract maths for bulk buyers

Single-fold vanilla extract standardly uses ≈100 g of beans per litre of 35–40% spirit (13.35 oz per US gallon). Practically: a 10 kg lot yields roughly 100 litres of single-fold extract — or about 50 litres of a double-fold style concentrate. Depending on pod size, expect roughly 250–350 pods per kg in Grade A lots and 350–450 in Grade B lots — our vanilla bean count guide (1 oz, 100 g, 1 kg) breaks the maths down by size class, and the step-by-step infusion process is in how to make vanilla extract from Grade B and Grade A beans.

Deep-Dive Guides for Bulk Buyers

Wholesale decisions deserve more than a price list. These guides from our own curing floor and lab bench answer the questions buyers email us most:

Bulk Vanilla Beans: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for bulk vanilla beans?
1 kg per wholesale lot. Below that, retail packs of 5–50 beans are ideal for sampling; above that, pricing steps down at 3, 5 and 10 kg, and orders of 20 kg+ or mixed-grade containers are quoted individually.
How much do bulk vanilla beans cost per kg?
Live tiered rates range from $259/kg (Grade A 7–8″, 1 kg) down to $132.50/kg (Grade B 4–6″, 10 kg). The price table on this page mirrors the store's live lot prices; your rate is locked on the proforma invoice at order time.
Which grade should I buy in bulk for vanilla extract?
Grade B. Its 15–20% moisture concentrates flavour solids per kilo and lowers cost per litre of extract. Grade A is the better choice when whole pods or seeds appear in the finished product.
Can I sample a lot before committing to a bulk order?
Yes — order a retail count (5–50 beans) of the same grade and length class you plan to scale. Sampling packs ship by air and let you run your own bend, sheen, split and extraction tests first.
Do you ship internationally with export documents?
Yes. Every wholesale shipment includes a commercial invoice, packing list, phytosanitary certificate and certificate of origin, with a certificate of analysis on request. 1–10 kg lots move by express air; larger programs by consolidated freight.
How should I store a 10 kg wholesale lot?
Keep the vacuum liner sealed until use, then store beans airtight in a cool (15–20 °C), dark room away from strong odours — never refrigerated. Grade B lots stay prime for 24 months or more; Grade A is at its textural best within 12–18 months.
Do you offer private label or custom specifications?
Yes — custom moisture targets, length sorting, mixed-grade lots and private-label packing are quoted case-by-case. Email your target spec and volume to dan@purevanillabeans.com.
